Abstract

The article considers the territory of the right and left banks of the Volga during the period of сonfrontation between the Grand Prince of Moscow Ivan III and the Uglich prince Andrey Bolshoy. An example of the conflict is the foundation of Rybnaya and Borisoglebskaya slobodas opposite Ust-Sheksna and Romanov. On the basis of written resources and archeological research, a connection between the slobodas organization and the economic confrontation of the princes is obvious. The main object of the couteraction was fishery which after the liquidation of the Uglich prince's district came under the control of Ivan III. The organization of stergeon fishing on fishgarths demands a complex of resources including fishing grounds, wood for fishgarths, people. After the annexation of the Uglich district to the Grand Ducal Moscow one, the management of such a complex remained on the left bank in Romanov, as evidenced by the document of 1527/28 from the cases of the Secret Affairs Department. The adherence of Rybnaya and Borisoglebskaya slobodas to Poshekhonye is testified in documents of 1563 and 1572.
