Abstract

Based on the information contained in the Customs Book of Veliky Novgorod of 1677/78, the article analyzes the assortment, cost, and volumes of consignments sent from Veliky Novgorod and through the customs gate at the mouth of the river Syas to the Swedish possessions. Seasonal fluctuations in the dynamics of commodity deliveries, geographical and social composition of merchants are considered. The case of smuggling a consignment to Sweden recorded in the Customs Book is described. The general source characterization of the Customs Book of Veliky Novgorod of 1677/78 is given.
