Review procedure

All materials received by the Editorial Board of the online scientific periodical "Caurus", with the exception of reports on scientific events and bibliographic reviews, undergo a mandatory double-blind (anonymous) review procedure.

The submitted materials are pre-evaluated by the Executive Editor for compliance with the requirements for the design of manuscripts, after which they are reviewed by the editor-in-chief for compliance with the stated topic, scientific significance, and quality of the study. The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject the materials provided by the author that do not correspond to the specialty of the scientific periodical, the design rules, or the requirements for scientific quality. The Editorial Board has the right to ask the author to make the necessary corrections to the text of the manuscript or to correct its design for its further consideration by the Editorial Board before the work of reviewers begins. Notification of the rejection of the material or the need to make certain changes to it is sent to the e-mail address specified by the author.

Materials, that are in accordance with the rules for the preparation of manuscripts and correspond to the specialty of the scientific periodical, are checked for originality, and then sent to reviewers. The Executive Editor informs the author about the receipt of the manuscript and the results of the review by e-mail, sending the author a copy of the review of the submitted materials and / or a reasoned refusal to publish the submitted materials without indicating the personal data of the reviewer.

The Editorial Board uses the principle of double anonymous review, in which the personal data of the author and reviewer are not disclosed. Reviewers of scientific publications considered by the Editorial Board are qualified specialists on the subject of peer-reviewed materials, who have had publications devoted to the subject of the reviewed article over the past three years. The reviewing takes place within 90 days after the Executive Editor notifies the author about the acceptance of the materials for consideration.

The result is a review by which the reviewer can:

  • recommend the material for publication without changes;
  • recommend accepting the material for publication after making mandatory edits;
  • recommend that the author be refused publication.

The Editorial Board has the right to reject the manuscript if there is at least one review containing a reasoned recommendation to refuse publication of the materials. The Executive Editor is obliged to notify the author about the results within 10 days after the Editorial Board receives the review.

The submitted materials are checked for compliance with the following criteria:

  • compliance of the content of the article with the specialty of the scientific periodical;
  • compliance of the article with the required design rules;
  • compliance of the title of the article with its content;
  • high scientific quality of the presented material;
  • independence and originality of the research;
  • scientific novelty and relevance of the research;
  • correct use of the sources involved in the study;
  • compliance with citation rules;
  • compliance of the presentation with the scientific style.

A manuscript that does not meet the listed criteria is rejected and cannot be accepted by the Editorial Board again in an unchanged form. The Executive Editor is obliged to promptly notify the author that their manuscript has been rejected by sending a reasoned refusal to the specified email address. If the submitted material meets all the criteria listed above, but contains some shortcomings, it will be sent to the author for revision. The manuscript in need of revision must be returned to the Editorial Board after making the necessary corrections within 30 days, after which it will be sent for re-review. If the author did not follow the recommendations of the Editorial Board and reviewers when making changes to the manuscript and did not provide a reasoned justification for their position, the re-submitted materials may be rejected.

The publication order is determined by the date of receipt of the final version of the manuscript. Studies containing fundamentally new information, devoted to the publication of previously unknown archival sources, as well as affecting the most relevant issues, can be published out of turn by the decision of the Editorial Board.

Materials accepted for publication are subject to literary and scientific editing. The author undertakes to cooperate with the Editorial Board in the process of preparing the material for publication: to read the proofreading and make the necessary corrections to the text of the work in due time. The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject materials or postpone their publication in case of non-fulfillment of these obligations.

Reviews are kept in the editorial office for 5 years.
